Chateau Margaux, a wine of almost supernatural finesse, and the bouquet are profound, complex. The grand vin is deep garnet-purple coloured and offers up notions of crushed blackberries, warm cassis, and mulberries with nuances of roses, cigar boxes, and damp soil plus a hint of menthol. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has layer upon layer of unsweetened black fruit preserves, exotic spices, and floral notions with chewy tannins and seamless freshness, finishing very long and minerally.
The 1999 vintage of Chateau Margaux is a blend of 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, and 2% Cabernet Franc. The wine has an opaque ruby/purple colour, and a sweetly herbaceous nose with some bell pepper, spice box, cedar, creme de cassis, and blackberry notes. This medium-bodied wine has plenty of ripe fruit flavours as well as sweet tannin in the finish. It should be at its best between 2004-2024. The 2005 Chateau Margaux is a clear and very deep garnet with a tint of crimson. The nose is powerful, yet it’s still very tight and closed.
