Are you confused because you don’t know if you need an electric or petrol lawn mower? Are you afraid of buying a lawn mower not suitable for your needs? To help you dispel your doubts here is a small guide with some tips for buying a new lawn top dressing spreader.

The main types of lawn mowers

Let’s start by making the first distinction on the main types of lawn mowers that can be divided into three types:

  • Electrical
  • Battery operated
  • Petrol engine

The trimmers are undoubtedly cheaper and have smaller dimensions but have the wire clutter. Battery-powered ones cost a little more but you use them cordless. The lawn mowers with internal combustion engine are the obligatory choice for large gardens; say from 1,000 square meters upwards. Given their high cost, they must be purchased against a real need. Let’s now see in more detail the characteristics of these two types of appliances.

Electric lawn mowers

The electric lawn mower is equipped with a wire that must be connected to an electrical outlet. The wire represents one of the major limitations of this appliance as its length delimits the range of action of the machine. The wire also represents an obstacle to normal cutting operations as it must continue to be moved to avoid cutting it with the mower blades. The electric lawnmowers have a container that collects the grass of a fairly small size. For this reason the container must often be emptied and this operation slows down the cutting operations a little.

Power

The power of electrical appliances is expressed in watts. The higher the power, the better the mower’s performance will be. In general, the power of these machines ranges from 1,000 to 1,800 W. If your lawn is infested with weeds with rather robust stalk you should purchase a mower with at least 1,500 W. In this way the blade will not stop when it has to cut the stem of the weeds.

Lame

The width of the blades generally ranges from 33 to 43 cm. The larger the blade, the less time it will take you to mow your lawn. In general, a lawn mower with 33 cm blades and a power of 1,000 W is sufficient for a small lawn up to 300 m2.
